Vincenzo Colleoni was a Venetian painter active in the second half of the 19th century and belonged to the Realism movement. This movement is expressed in opposition to Romanticism and Neoclassicism, seeking to depict daily life and reality with a more objective and less idealized approach. Unfortunately, not many sources have come down to us about Colleoni, and he is among those artists who still need a more in-depth critical study. We know that he exhibited at the National Exhibition of Parma in 1870 with the painting "The Importunate Dog" and in Naples in 1877 he brought five works with the titles: "Visit to a painter's studio", "Pearl Threader", "The Acrobats", "A Ray of Sunshine after the Rain" and "Childish Contentment". In our painting, signed in red by the artist, we find a dynamic interior scene where the two female figures in the center are pushing away a crowd of masked characters who are very curious and interested in seeing the swaddled baby up close in the left corner of the canvas. Also in the dim light, a nurse is pushing away a character with a hat.
