Description: Gouache is the name of the pictorial technique, a painting made with gouache watercolor, a French word derived from the Italian "guazzo" or guado. The gouache palette consists of little water thickened with eight colors: ivory black, cobalt blue, natural umber, burnt sienna, cadmium red, emerald green, Naples yellow or yellow ochre and zinc white. Tempered colours, vegetable glues, pigments; a mysterious concoction that every author of this genre keeps secret. Seen from a distance the painting resembles an oil painting. Ours depicts a view of Naples seen from Via Marina, with the fishermen's village in the foreground and the Posillipo hill in the background. Related by a contemporary Empire frame in gilded and carved wood. General Conditions: Good condition. Provenance: Naples 19th century. Measurements: 97x70cm. Document: Certificate of Authenticity.
