Antique oil painting on canvas of a mittle-European area depicting a portrait of a bearded man, signed and dated 1840 at the bottom right. The character is a three-quarter portrait of a bust with the gaze fixed on the painter who is portraying him and stands out with his beautiful dark dress on a monochrome ocher background. On the back we read an inscription in German in which, among the various words, a person's name "Franz Betz" and "in Aschaffenburg" or the Bavarian town in which the canvas was most probably painted is deciphered. The gilded wooden frame with gold leaf has some lack of the easily repairable filler layer. Dimensions: Length 57 cm x High
