Refined female portrait signed by the painter Antonio Zona (Gambellara di Mira, 1814 – Rome, 1892), a protagonist of the Italian academic scene of the 19th century. The work is signed in the upper right "A-Zona", with the bar of the "A" elegantly integrated into the diagonal of the "Z", according to a graphic style typical of nineteenth-century pictorial monograms. The young woman is portrayed with a pensive and romantic expression, dressed in a blue and white striped dress, embellished with a dark necklace. The brushstroke is soft and refined, with a luministic rendering that gives great delicacy to the whole. Of particular importance is the original sculpted frame, made of Swiss pine and decorated with gilded rocaille highlights. The carving, rich in foliate volutes and moving motifs, testifies to great executive skill and gives the composition a scenographic impact of strong elegance. Measurements: Painting: 50 × 59 cm Frame: 105 × 135 cm Conditions: Painting in good condition, with natural craquelure of the pictorial surface. Solid frame, with small wear and tear of time and minimal lack of gilding. No recent visible restoration.
