The spouses of Varallo, by Giovanni Battista Zali (Boccioleto 1793 - Milan 1851). On the back of the male portrait the inscription: “1831 on 3 May painted Gio.Batta.Zalli in the town of Gold near Varallo”; on the back of the female portrait the inscription: “1833 Gio.Batta.Zali painted this too”. The "town of gold" indicated in the inscription is today a fraction of the Municipality of Varallo, not far from the city.
