"To my children"
Portrait of an elderly woman, a painting datable to the late nineteenth century by Theodor Feucht (1867-1944), a Bavarian painter active in the Italian-speaking territories of the Austrian empire. The dedication "To my children" is on the book in the hands of the protagonist. The age is now more than mature and the face shows the signs of advanced senility, which the painter renders with polite realism. The woman belongs to the world of the Venetian mountains, where the painting comes from; his is a popular class but the condition is not poor, as shown by the fabrics of the clothes and the bonnet with the ruffles and the long silk bands loosened down to the hands, a bit worn in the punch.
