Refined devotional glass painting depicting Saint Luigi Gonzaga, a young Jesuit saint (1568–1591) venerated as the patron saint of Christian youth. The work shows the saint with an absorbed and delicate face, a golden halo, a lily – a symbol of purity – and a small Marian effigy at his side. The work, of extremely high pictorial quality, is executed with a very fine brush tip using an almost miniaturist technique: the features of the face, hands and lily reveal a masterful control, based on subtle hatching and minute highlights. The support consists of a blown and slightly irregular glass, original from the first decades of the 19th century, which gives the pictorial surface a particular luminous vibration. The coeval wooden frame, with a stylized leaf decoration, is typical of Venetian Austrian production from the early 19th century. Dimensions Painting: 9.5 × 7.5 cm With frame: 11.5 × 10 cm Condition Good, with slight signs of use compatible with age and a small lack of color in the lower part, near the lily and the table.
