Giovanni Grubacs (Venice, 1830 – 1919) - Pair of Venetian Views
Pair of views of Venice, executed with the typical topographical and luminous precision of the nineteenth-century veduta school.
Piazza San Marco seen from the Basin: The composition opens with the two columns of the Piazzetta di San Marco, adorned with the statues of San Todaro and the Lion of Saint Mark, flanked by the Doge's Palace and the Marciana Library. In the background, the bell tower of San Marco and the Basilica stand out, while elegant figures and commoners animate the scene.
Rialto Bridge: View of the famous bridge over the Grand Canal, surrounded by historic buildings and animated by gondolas and merchant boats.
Both works express the mastery of Giovanni Grubacs, interpreter of the Venetian veduta tradition, capable of blending the lesson of Canaletto and Guardi with a more modern and luminous chromatic sensibility.
