Pair of Venetian ViewsGiuseppe Ponga (Chioggia 1856 - Venice 1925) 1) Giudecca Canal 2) View of the Grand Canal Oil on relined panel Carved and gilded wooden frame Panel cm. 32 x 26 frame 50 x 45 Excellent condition signed lower left Pair of exquisite Venetian views depicting the Giudecca Canal and a glimpse of the Grand Canal. These are two small paintings of exquisite workmanship, executed in the pictorial manner of the Venetian master Giuseppe Ponga, one of the most talented view painters working in Venice between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His paintings are distinguished by an airy lightness and a particularly lively and pleasing color scheme. His depictions, always referring to the great masters of the 18th century, are of great elegance. These two little jewels are an excellent example of his painting, showing a personal style in the reinterpretation of eighteenth-century Venetian painting. The works are complete with original frames which in turn reflect the rocaille taste, revisited in a manner consistent with the characteristics of the paintings. GIUSEPPE PONGA Chioggia (Venice) 1856 - Venice 1925 After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, his vast work ranges in various artistic fields ranging from mural and easel painting, to miniature and watercolor, always retracing the manner and themes of the eighteenth-century models of G. B. Tiepolo and F. Guardi. He received prestigious commissions, such as the decorations of the Palace of Parliament in Budapest and some rooms of the Royal Palace of Venice. He also painted the famous ten eighteenth-century panels that adorn the walls of the magnificent "Gran Caffè Quadri", a historic Venetian venue overlooking Piazza San Marco. His certain and signed works are rare and obtain excellent results at international auctions.
