The author of the work is Giuseppe Ponga, one of the most valid view painters working in Venice between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. His paintings are exquisitely made, the brushstroke is very fine, and his representations, always referring to the great masters of the 18th century, are of great elegance. The painting is an excellent example of his pictorial skills, showing a completely personal stylistic perfection in the reinterpretation of eighteenth-century Venetian painting. He also painted the famous ten panels in eighteenth-century style that decorate the walls of the magnificent "Gran Caffè Quadri", a historic Venetian venue that directly overlooks Piazza San Marco.
