CHP009 - Rare Renaissance fireplace in slate, dating back to 1545, from Genoa, measures cm W 250 x H 250
CHP009 - Rare antique Renaissance fireplace in slate.
Slate is a metamorphic rock of sedimentary origin.
The historical place of slate extraction is Liguria, more precisely the coastal area between Lavagna and Chiavari (hence the name blackboard, made with this material). Equally famous are the quarries of Val Fontanabuona (near Chiavari, Rapallo and Genoa) and Valle Argentina (in the province of Imperia).
The fireplace is richly sculpted, with the coat of arms of the Giustinianini family in the center supported by a pair of griffins and surmounted by an eagle with outstretched wings.
The legs are carved in a curl with other griffins.
Thanks to its timeless, elegant and versatile color, it adapts to all types of environments.
Dated 1545, from a noble family of Genoa.
It can be completed with various fireplace accessories: fire dogs or fender and backplate.
Measures cm W 250 x H 250, the opening measures cm W 152 x H 140
