Carved and gilded oval frame – Bologna, early 18th century
Elegant oval frame in carved and gilded wood leaf, made in Bologna in the very early years of the eighteenth century, still linked to the late seventeenth-century models for the rich decoration of volutes and phytomorphic motifs. The upper part is embellished with a moving and scenographic pediment, with curl elements and stylized leaves.
Originally conceived as a frame for a painting, it was subsequently adapted as a mirror by inserting a precious mercury mirror, probably coeval with the frame itself. The whole retains a strong Baroque character, with a decorative taste that well expresses the Bolognese tradition of the early 18th century.
