Veneto, 17th century Pair of tabernacle frames Carved and gilded wood, 67 x 41 cm Presented here are two 17th-century wooden frames in carved, lacquered and gilded wood with an architectural structure on a volute base with a crowned heraldic shield. Due to the rich architectural features, these frames can be defined as being in the Sansovino style, derived from the style of the famous Venetian architect Jacopo Tatti, known as Sansovino (1486-1570). The use of gold in the most protruding parts contrasts with the red hues of the recesses, thus creating chiaroscuro effects that highlight the rich decoration and motifs that surround the frame: the heraldic shield, the curled volutes and the heads of putti and angels, which together with the shield seem to mark the mixtilinear pattern.
