These refined four armchairs were made in the first half of the 18th century in central Italy. The structure, with a very wide seat, is made of gilded and lacquered wood in shades of light blue, finely carved with rocaille motifs characteristic of the Louis XV era. The carvings create phytomorphic elements in low relief of great plasticity and elegance. The backrest, with a quadrangular shape with a wavy and shaped profile, is crowned by a carved wooden element with volutes and fan-shaped foliate elements. The armrests are decorated with small volutes and vegetal motifs and end with a curl sculpture decorated with acanthus leaves that connects to the seat with a slightly curvilinear element. The band under the seat is richly decorated with rocaille motifs in the center and connecting to the armrests. The arched and wavy legs are decorated with vegetal motifs and end with a curled foot.
The armchairs, in good condition, solid and stable, are suitable for use. They can be placed in a living room near sofas, as head chairs, on the sides of a console or chest of drawers and are pleasant both near antique and modern furniture. Their size and the unusual width of the seat makes them particularly comfortable. Rare to find on the market in a group of four.
