Louis XVI armchair
Article description
Louis XVI style gilded wood cabriolet armchair. The seat consists of four truncated cone-shaped legs with a collar, a ribbon-carved band, armrests with leaves and volutes, and a backrest that reiterates the ribbon motif enriched in the central part with a carving of delicate bouquets of roses. The seat, of great composite refinement, is certainly inspired by the furnishings produced for the French court. Both the model and the carving, so minute and delicate, were a French prerogative. The construction methodology and the type of gilding, on the other hand, present a technique from the following century. The armchair was therefore produced in the French Louis XVI style, as mentioned, but in the second half of the 19th century. In fact, it was very fashionable during this period to furnish entire rooms by replicating a style of the past.
