Lombard Louis XVI inlaid nightstand. Period: Late 18th century (Louis XVI) Origin: Lombardy, Italy Materials: Main wood: Walnut Inlays: Boxwood, cherry wood and charcoal stucco. Finish: Shellac varnish Description: Elegant small nightstand, typical of Lombard cabinet-making production from the Louis XVI period. Characterized by a slender structure and rigorous lines, lightened by geometric inlays and decorative motifs. Distinctive features: Structure: Parallelepiped shape with finely inlaid top and sides. Front: Features a single central door, also inlaid, which opens onto an internal compartment equipped with a fixed shelf, offering practicality and storage space. Inlays: Both the top and the door are embellished with elaborate inlays that recall neoclassical "Greek" or "dentil" motifs, made with contrasting light woods. The corners and edges also feature thin inlaid threads. Legs: Four tapered, truncated pyramid legs, typical of the Louis XVI style. The legs are also embellished with vertical inlays that enhance their linearity. Sides: The sides are decorated with boxwood and cherry wood threaded panels. Condition: Completely restored furniture with final shellac polishing applied with a pad.
