Carved walnut chair, Northern Italy, late 17th – early 18th century
Elegant solid walnut chair, made in Northern Italy between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The high and slender structure features a richly carved backrest on two crosspieces, with floral and volute motifs. The decoration is also repeated on the lower front crosspiece, reflecting an ornamental language typical of the Renaissance and Baroque tradition of Northern Italy. The hand-worked walnut wood shows a beautiful antique patina. The seat is solid, stable and proportionate.There are some points to be restored: small breaks to be glued and areas to be integrated with dowels, but the general structure is solid and authentic.
