INLAID CHEST OF DRAWERS - PIEDMONT - LOUIS XVI
Splendid Piedmontese chest of drawers, Louis XVI period (late 1700s)
An elegant and refined Piedmontese three-drawer chest of drawers, a valuable example of cabinet-making from the second half of the 18th century (circa 1770-1790), in full Louis XVI style.
Main Features and Style
Period: Louis XVI, 18th Century (Late 1700s).
Origin: Piedmontese Manufacture.
Structure and Materials: The furniture is made with a solid structure and is finely veneered and inlaid in walnut, boxwood and green-tinted pear wood.
Line: The lines are rigorous and neoclassical, typical of the Louis XVI style, with a squared and slender body that rests on elegant truncated pyramid feet, in line with the Piedmontese production of the time.
Geometric Inlay (Marquetry): The most valuable element is the rich decorative apparatus. The front, sides and top are adorned with a complex geometric herringbone (or herringbone) marquetry in light and dark shades. This decoration is framed by a double inlaid threading that features a valuable "arrow" or "chevron" motif, a design much loved in Piedmont for its chromatic and optical vivacity.
Decorative and Functional Details
Sides: The side panels reproduce the geometric inlay with a central diamond or lozenge design, framed by inlaid lateral pilasters.
Handles and Escutcheons: The chest of drawers has three large drawers with bronze rosette handles, of contemporary taste, which harmonize perfectly with the warm tone of the wood.
Condition: The furniture is in excellent conservative condition, with a splendid natural patina that testifies to the age and authenticity of the piece.
