Shaped Provençal walnut chest of drawers, 18th century
Refined Provençal walnut chest of drawers with a curved line and balanced proportions, datable to the 18th century. The front has two large curved drawers, framed by shaped moldings with reserves in a sinuous outline, typical of the southern French production of the time. The sides are slightly flared, giving the furniture an elegant lightness and a pleasant visual harmony. The lower crosspiece is richly carved with stylized vegetal and floral motifs, culminating in a central openwork element with a double volute. The finely chiseled handles and escutcheons in gilded bronze add a touch of light and refinement to the whole. The legs, expertly replaced during an old restoration, have been embedded and adapted to the original structure, preserving its overall aesthetics and stability. There is also a small restoration in the lower part of the front crosspiece. The warm and deep patina of the walnut, the result of time and use, enhances the natural grain of the wood and testifies to the long life of the furniture. This chest of drawers, solid and ready for furnishing, represents a perfect example of the sober and harmonious elegance of the 18th-century Provençal tradition, capable of combining functionality, decorative taste and craftsmanship.
