Console table. Tuscany, second quarter of the 18th century
Console table in carved and gilded wood. It rests on four supports with a double opposed curve ending in full-bodied curled volutes held back by masks; female caryatids carved in the round rest on the upper volutes. The legs are joined by volutes ending in another female protome, here facing upwards, with a pair of petals and acanthus leaves forming a backdrop. The under-counter band is centered by a carved cherub placed within architectural volutes. Simple carved volutes on the sides; the carved lambrequin motifs that decorate the piece feature pendants sculpted like curtain tassels. Shaped top veneered in Medici breccia resting on a molding.
