Neapolitan Louis XV console in carved, mecca-silvered and lacquered wood, mid-18th century
Elegant Neapolitan console from the mid-18th century, still fully Baroque in spirit but already oriented towards the Louis XV style. The work is entirely made of carved wood, mecca-silvered and subsequently lacquered, with a refined decoration of scrolls, acanthus leaves and floral motifs. The top, in wood painted to imitate marble (marbled), is original and has a pleasant patina of time. The light lacquer, probably the result of a restoration dating back about fifty years, enhances the brilliance of the mecca silvering, giving the whole an elegant chromatic lightness. The state of conservation is generally good: there are small decorative losses and a drop in the front part of the marbled top, as visible in the photograph. Console of beautiful presence and harmonious proportions, representative of the refined Neapolitan production of the mid-18th century.
