Pair of corner cabinets in lacquered wood, decorated in polychrome with flowers and birds, Piedmont, mid-18th century
Description
Pair of Piedmontese corner cabinets with a slender and asymmetrical structure, entirely lacquered in yellow-ochre tones and embellished with a rich polychrome pictorial decoration with floral and ornithological motifs. The central doors feature lively naturalistic scenes with colorful birds among flowering branches and stylized landscapes, bordered by frames with spirals and festoons of flowers. The upper part is characterized by a moved and tapered shape, with open shelves also adorned with painted plant elements. The lower part, supported by high arched legs with square-section caprine feet, shows a small open compartment framed by further lacquered floral motifs.
A refined work of the Turin tradition of the mid-eighteenth century, with a clear oriental influence in the pictorial scenes, which reflect the Rococo taste for bright polychromy and decorative lightness.
