Carved, sculpted, and gilded wooden mirror. Venice, mid-18th century.
Description
This mirror is a magnificent example of Venetian craftsmanship from the mid-18th century. The frame is richly carved and gilded, with ornamentation typical of the rococo style: volutes, curls, acanthus leaves, and naturalistic decorations. The upper part is characterized by an elaborate crest with a central mirrored cartouche and ribbon and shell decorations. The mirror shows evident signs of oxidation and wear over time, with stains and alterations typical of the original mercurial glass.
