This refined and elegant mirror, made in Turin towards the mid-18th century, with original mercury glass, features a richly carved and gilded wooden frame.
The frame, which surrounds the entire rectangular mirror with Baroque and Rocaille motifs (known as 'pannocchietta'), has an important and rich openwork cresting in which the ornaments are sculpted with phytomorphic and floral decorations. The cresting, very slender upwards, lightens the richness of the ornaments making the whole graceful and well balanced.
On the lower side, the mirror rests on feet also with rich carvings and floral decorations. The volutes and the movement of the elaborate architecture of this mirror make it a particularly valuable object, characterized by a beautiful gilding from which emerges the warmth of the red color of the bole.
The mirror, very decorative and of great scenic effect, is suitable to be displayed above a chest of drawers or a console in entrances, studies and lounges or in a bedroom. Very beautiful together with antique furnishings, it can certainly bring a sign of elegance and sophistication if inserted in modern contexts.
