Venetian mirror in etched glass with applied flowers, late 19th – early 20th century
Important and charming Venetian mirror, made between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The piece stands out for its monumental dimensions (height 160 cm, width 108 cm, maximum depth 12 cm) and for the rich decoration in blown and etched glass, according to the best Murano tradition. The frame is composed of mirrored plates finely etched with floral motifs, profiled by rope-molded borders and joined by rosettes in worked glass. In the connecting points, floral elements in blown glass, hand-modeled with petals and leaves in relief, are applied. The upper crest features an elegant curve adorned with etched plant motifs and a central mask, typical of the Venetian decorative repertoire. The original silvering is partly oxidized, with an antique patina that gives further character to the whole. Documentation
The mirror is accompanied by two precious period documents: a printed drawing that faithfully reproduces the model, and a headed card from the “Opificio di Colleganza di m.o fra Artisti ed Operaj diversi” based in Venice (Piazza Goldoni, Calle dei Stagneri).
Condition
