19th century Sideboard Walnut wood, cm 93 x 122 x 43 This Renaissance-style sideboard is characterized by the complex workmanship of the wooden material, in this case walnut, and by the symmetrical and orderly structuring of the decorations alternating with drawers and doors. The vegetal motifs that separate and surround the long parts of the two central doors end with two lion heads on the sides and with a coat of arms in the central strip; the prominence given by the depth of the carving makes these works stand out above the others, which are more minute and contained: the edges of the doors and horizontal shelves, the lion's paw feet, typical of the Renaissance style, and the foliage panels that separate the two small drawers above the doors. These pieces of furniture are characterized by intricate carvings, floral and figurative motifs inspired by the forms of classical antiquity, with a harmony and symmetry that reflect the aesthetic ideals of the era. In the period between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with the revival of historical styles, the Renaissance was rediscovered and reinterpreted: the typical furniture of the Renaissance era were therefore produced again, returning to populate bourgeois homes, where the craftsmanship and ancient charm of this kind of furniture is sought after, such as chests of drawers, monumental beds, Savonarola chairs and the cupboard, namely the sideboard; the latter equipped with multiple drawers and doors and usually just under one and a half meters high finds the precise characteristics of the traditional style in the example presented here.
