Tray table, England, second half of the 19th century. Made of finely chiseled and gilded bronze with a papier-mâché top. Four uprights in the shape of a winged dragon with a goat's foot, connected to each other by a cross with a pinnacle, support a top embellished with gilded bronze rocaille applications. The tray is signed "Jennet & Bettridge London" surmounted by a crown. This is one of the most important manufacturers of furniture and objects made of papier-mâché, a company that exhibited in the most important universal expositions of the 19th century. On the cover of the book "japanned papier maché and tinware" is a drawing of the Universal Exposition of 1851, depicting the Jennens & Bettridge stand.
