Two-part trumeau in lacquered, gilded, and painted wood. Venice, first half of the 18th century. 105 x 54 cm x h 245 cm. Entirely made of finely lacquered and gilded wood with "Chinoiseries" motifs. Wavy front and elegantly carved cornice. Interiors made of lacquered and painted wood simulating tortoiseshell. Introduced in eighteenth-century Venice, the trumeau, a two-part piece of furniture, represents an era of sophisticated elegance and refinement. Characterized by sinuous lines and sumptuous decorations, this furniture embodies the combination of the mastery of Venetian cabinetmakers and oriental influences, particularly the fashion of chinoiserie. The Chinoiseries decorations, inspired by Chinese and Japanese design, revolutionized the furniture market of the time, conferring an aura of exoticism and charm to the furnishings of Venetian palaces of the eighteenth century. These pieces of furniture were not only functional, but also works of art that reflected the cosmopolitan spirit and the search for new aesthetics of the time. The piece in question is a two-part trumeau made in Venice around the 1740s-50s, particularly valuable for its exceptional black lacquering with gold leaf decorations with typical Chinoiseries motifs. The lower part consists of a front with three shaped drawers and a drop-leaf concealing a series of small drawers and secret compartments. The upper part with two mirrored doors opens to a series of compartments and shelves for use as porcelain and document holders. The final touch is given by the magnificent cornice, also decorated in the style of the furniture, but embellished with a very refined carving that rivals the best gilded mirrors of the time. A further touch of exoticism is given by the interiors of the furniture, entirely lacquered and painted to simulate tortoiseshell, a particularly rare and unusual detail. - All shipments within the EU are free and professionally packaged. - Each item is sold with a certificate of authenticity with legal validity. - Further details on the condition report are available upon request. - Viezzi Arte guarantees quality and professionalism at competitive prices, contact us at info@viezziarte.it or via WhatsApp at +39 3402841279. *Message for non-Italian buyers: Please note that this work has not yet obtained a free export certificate from Italy at the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage.
