Rectangular shape with shell edge and gadroon pattern, movable fluted handle with garland cartouche.
Motto: Honi soit qui mal y pense. Shame on him who thinks evil of it. Motto of the English Order of the Garter, established, according to a legendary tradition, by King Edward III of England in honor of his mistress, the Countess of Salisbury, who dropped a garter during a ball; the king rushed to pick it up and rebuked with these words the courtiers who were smiling at the episode.
