DescriptionPair of Queen Victoria sterling silver sugar bowls with lids, J E Terrey & Co (John Edward Terry), London, 1840 Bulbous and harmoniously shaped, with a wide belly and a tapering towards the base, which flows into a pedestal decorated with rocaille volutes, typical of the late Rococo style. Domed lids with a handle in the shape of a seated human figure, inspired by oriental art, common in Victorian taste. Relief decorations with floral motifs and decorative cartouches framing engraved, heraldic coats of arms. Embossed and chiseled workmanship of the highest quality, as evidenced by the refinement of the ornamental details. Sterling silver marked with 5 hallmarks: Manufacturer's logo: J E Terrey & Co (John Edward Terry) Lion passant: alloy mark. Guarantee control of the 925/1000 sterling silver grade Leopard's head with crown: city of London Date letter year: 1840 Duty mark: Queen Victoria head Dimensions HxWxD 16.5cm x 12cm x 12cm Weight 572gr Provenance Private collection Conditions Slight signs of wear and tear and superficial scratches.
