The hinged double domed lid is lifted by a volute thumbpiece, with a modeled hinge section. The double C scroll handle terminates unusually with a large cast scalloped shell. Sterling silver hallmarked with 5 hallmarks: Maker's mark: William Dalton Passant Lion: alloy mark. Warranty check of sterling title 925/1000 Shield with three separate castles: City of Newcastle Date year letter: 1747 Duty mark: lion's head with crown Dimensions HxWxD 19.5cm x 17.5cm x 10cm Weight 864gr Provenance Private collection Conditions Slight signs of wear from age and surface scratches. The 5 hallmarks are present at the base of the tankard. While on the handle we find the manufacturer's logo.
