English silver cup with bird of prey head handle, 19th century
Elegant solid silver cup of English manufacture, datable to the 19th century, probably conceived as a baptismal cup. The body, made with great craftsmanship and probably turned, has a smooth surface interrupted by a central band chiseled with plant motifs, also used at the base. The handle, strongly characterizing, is modeled in the shape of a bird of prey head – perhaps an eagle – depicted in a stylized but detailed way, in line with neoclassical sensibilities. Measurements: height 10 cm, diameter 7 cm. Weight: 170 g. Condition: excellent, with very slight dents at the base. The hallmarks, present but worn, do not allow to identify the silversmith with certainty. Refined and sought-after object, ideal for collectors of nineteenth-century English silverware. ????
