Important pair of wall sconces in gilded bronze with three lights, finely chased with rich rocaille decoration with leaf motif. Louis XV style, late 19th century. They bear a signature on the back.
These sconces are stylistically comparable to the pair of sconces in the Châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon and are inspired by the most famous bronzier of the Louis XV period, Jacques Caffièri (1678-1755), in the service of the king. Caffièri is the best representative of the rocaille style applied to furnishing objects. His bronzes are distinguished by their audacity, exuberance, and above all by the quality of execution: ample and elastic scrolls, vigorous chiselling.
