Magnificent rosewood writing desk for correspondence with cherry side inserts and mother-of-pearl lock.19th century.
Original working lock.
The desk opens with a small flap at the top, which can be locked.
This opens to compartments containing 1 original crystal inkwell.
The small open flap allows the larger flap below to open onto a velvet top.
The top also acts as a drop-leaf desk with card holder inside and a secret compartment that can be opened via an ingenious mechanism hidden inside, containing three small drawers.
Below 2 drawers, an original card is visible, still in excellent condition, bearing the inscription:
