Carved and gilded frieze, northern Italy, Charles X period, ca. 1820–1830
Deeply carved wooden frieze, probably in lime wood, with gold leaf and faux wood finish, datable to the Charles X period (ca. 1820–1830). The rich and well-balanced decorative motif is composed of foliate scrolls, architectural elements, and a central medallion with a raised floral bouquet. The carving features well-defined undercuts and careful workmanship, typical of decorative production in the Veneto or Lombardy area. Originally, the frieze was probably the upper crest of a mirror; today it can be enhanced as an overdoor or decorative element above a fireplace. General condition is good: it has some losses in the preparation of the gilding and small missing parts in two carved elements, which can be easily restored. Dimensions: length 124 cm – maximum height 42 cm. Contact us for further information. Worldwide shipping.
