Lapis lazuli and marble display base – Italy, early 20th century
Rare display base composed of a cylindrical body in lapis lazuli with alternating natural blue and gray-whitish bands, mounted on a circular base in white marble, presumably Carrara, with a characteristic milky color. The object, probably made between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, was likely intended to support a bronze statuette, a small bust or a table sculpture. The combination of precious materials and essential lines makes it ideal for collectors of Wunderkammer objects, stone art enthusiasts or as a base for a missing sculpture.
