VOTIVE STEM IN WOOD Period Late XXVI Dynasty, 664-525 BC The arched stele is organized in four areas: in the upper arched space two udjat eyes - or "eye of Horus" - contrasted are represented, as a wish for good health, among them the solar disk, symbol of eternity and a horizontal line of hieroglyphic inscription; follows the area reserved for the main text consisting of 8 columns, which show the usual funeral offer formula of food, drinks, clothes and everything that will serve the deceased in the afterlife. In the median register, the deceased standing has his hands raised in adoration, he wears the skirt with central pleating, in front of him, seated on the throne, the god Ra-Horakthy with hawk head, sun disk on the head and scepter in hand , wears a tight-fitting robe, separated by a hieroglyphic column, a mirror scene with the deceased adoring in front of the god Atum, with a composite crown and scepter, below them a hieroglyphic inscription line. The lower register completes the table with a series of 6 Ankh crosses. Of funeral use, he identified the deceased making his name alive and provided, through images and words, that he would have all the goods necessary for a comfortable life in the Hereafter. During the first intermediate period they had a rectangular shape with very simple decorations but they were already an integral part of the funeral outfit together with the sarcophagus. Communication to the Archaeological Superintendence of Bologna Cod. 50/2015 A PAINTED WOOD STELE Late Period, 26th Dynasty, circa 664-525 BC Round topped sculpted in shallow sunk relief, with three register, the top lunette with winged sun disc, the middle register with two scenes divided by a vertical line of text, depicting the deceased wearing the robe of the living, with arms upraised in adoration before Atum, a mirroring scene on the right with Ra-Harakthy, below seven lines of hieroglyphs. Cod. 50/2015 Height 43 cm; Width 31.5 cm
