Antique carpet - Caucasian runner KAREBAGH - n. 766 -
I believe this rug dates back to the late nineteenth century, but I always prefer to be cautious. It still has its original color gradation, where brown predominates in the field. Personally I love the "abrash", those shades of color so particular and I share the opinion of some scholars that they are wanted by the weaver to give more depth to the carpet. However, it is usually believed that the prepared color was not sufficient to dye all the wool, so something else was used. We must not forget that these carpets were woven by nomads who lived in the mountains. measure cm. 250 x 105.
