Old Caucasian kilim GAREBAGH (or KAREBAGH)
This kilim has clear references to Aubusson French rugs. In fact, they were woven on the Caucasus mountains to satisfy the requests of the Russian nobles, enchanted by the Aubusson rugs that had been donated to the tsar by the kings of France. Gradually, however, the original light background color has been replaced by an intense dark color: brown or black, which highlights the design of the roses very much. The effect is truly surprising, if you think that this kilim was woven into a simple house in the Caucasus mountains.
