Russia Moscow School - Early 19th century Gold background - Cm 38 x 43.5 This rare and important 'Nativity' of Christ is a work, in all respects, of great importance. The state of conservation, the prestigious school in which it was written, painted, the gold background and some particular scenes make it unique. The 'Flight into Egypt' enriches the table with a scene hardly written as an iconographic canon. The 'Massacre of the Innocents' at the foot of the table are incredibly crude, but they make this painting even more precious. It is not easy to have two similar rarities in the same work.
