Cut crystal liqueur set, Bohemia or Russo-Bohemian area, 19th century
Elegant liqueur set consisting of two bottles with stoppers and eleven clear cut crystal glasses, probably made in Bohemia or the Russo-Bohemian area, in the second half of the 19th century. The bottles have a faceted body with an octagonal cut, a slender neck and a faceted cut stopper. The glasses, also vertically faceted, rest on an octagonal foot with a turned double-knot stem. The hand workmanship is evident: each piece shows slight differences in proportions and small manufacturing defects, which attest to its craftsmanship. Numerous air inclusions visible inside the crystal confirm the nineteenth-century production. Bottle dimensions: height with stopper 30.5 cm (26.5 cm without stopper), max diameter 12 cm. Glass dimensions: height 10.5 cm, diameter 5 cm. Composition: 2 bottles + 11 glasses (one glass missing). Condition: generally good. Two glasses have evident chips; others show small missing parts and normal signs of use compatible with age. The service falls within the production of cut crystal of Bohemian tradition, highly appreciated also in Russia, where this model of glass was known as lafitnik and was used for liqueurs and spirits.
