The work depicts a battle episode set in a vast and dramatic landscape, rendered with extraordinary energy and narrative intensity. In the foreground, a knight in armor, wrapped in a red cloak, lunges on horseback towards the enemy, surrounded by soldiers, frantic horses, and cannon smoke. In the background, the horizon is furrowed with stormy clouds and flashes of fire, which amplify the tension of the action. The composition, built on diagonals and strong contrasts of light, is typical of the production of Francesco Casanova, a recognized master of battle paintings, capable of blending descriptive realism and Baroque impetus. Technique and support: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 108X160 cm Condition: Good Reference bibliography: E. Martini, Francesco Casanova pittore di battaglie, Venice, 1931. F. Mazzocca, La pittura di battaglia in Italia nel Settecento, Milan, 2005. Notes: Francesco Casanova, younger brother of the famous adventurer Giacomo, trained in Venice and Paris, developing a pictorial language strongly influenced by Jacques Courtois and Philips Wouwerman, with theatrical accents and a taste for the meticulous description of military scenes. His battles were highly appreciated by European courts, particularly in Austria, where he obtained numerous commissions.
