Pairs of scenes from the old testament
Pair of Venetian oil paintings on canvas, circa mid-18th century. On the two canvases two biblical subjects are represented: Jacob dreams of the stairway to heaven (Genesis) and The sacred bush (Exodus). Jacob during a stop on the road to Carran, while he sleeps he dreams of a ramp that leads from the ground to heaven crossed by angels, above God the Father. The scene is set within a typically Venetian landscape. After fleeing, Moses lived for a few years in the desert as a shepherd, one day he reached Mount Oreb (Sinai) which in Hebrew means arid and is attracted by a burning bush that never seems to go out.
