To view more details and additional images of the artwork, visit our website, which is always updated and full of suggestions at https://www.antichitaischia.it/it/prodotto/trittico-xv--secolo--grecia-meridionale Extraordinary medieval triptych, tempera on panel, from Southern Greece, under Venetian domination, consisting of a central panel and two side panels, which can be closed by small hinges. Dimensions (cm): closed 38 x 68, open 76 x 68 This is a document of great rarity and historical and artistic importance, a link between Eastern and Western Christianity, certainly worthy of careful and in-depth studies. This is not a commercial work but an object of extreme rarity and beauty, destined to excite and satisfy the most demanding collectors. The triptych leaves you amazed and arouses interest and wonder as much as its preciousness is evident. We preferred not to dwell on describing all the countless scenes represented, leaving the joy of discovering the many unusual iconographies typical of that extraordinary historical moment to medieval art enthusiasts. An example is the image of Saint Christopher "Cinocefalo" or Dog Head, a representation strictly prohibited by the Council of Trent in the 16th century, as well as Saints Constantine and his mother Helen on the sides of the cross, he being the first great emperor of Rome of Christian faith with whose edict its worship was liberalized in 313 AD. The work is datable to the late fifteenth century and is in excellent condition in relation to the period. The paintings have not undergone any interventions and can still be read in an excellent way.
