The proposed painting, executed in oil on panel and datable to the 16th century, depicts the Virgin holding the infant Jesus in her lap, both of whom curiously turn their gaze outwards, while a vast, wooded hilly landscape stretches behind them.
The plastic, incisive, yet formally harmonious and well-balanced style allows the painting to be framed within the Florentine Renaissance production.
Specifically, the paternity is to be linked to a skilled painter whose style reflects the stylistic dictates of Raphael, visible here in the gentle and contemplative trait, characterized by a soft, diffused light. And the vast background landscape, well harmonized with the entire composition, is also an example of that 'sweet style' typical of the Urbino master.
Dwelling on the details, it is easy to find points of contact also with some works by Andrea del Sarto: his style, distinguished by a remarkable compositional balance and a high formal control, had a great influence on the Florentine painters of the sixteenth century, combining in an exceptionally harmonious way the pyramidal scheme typical of Raphael's Madonnas with the monumentality of the figures derived from Michelangelo.
