A busy village scene set angainst a rural landscape. Some are drawing water from a well, others are doing buisines with a jewish merchant by a farm house. In the background, people are doing farm work, and a path leads to a fortified town in the background. The work stands in the tradition of peasant scenes coined by the Breughels. In particular David Vinckboons, born in Mechelen, later active in Antwerp and Amsterdam, produced small versions of these sujets, similar to the one offered here.
