17th century Flemish painting on panel, Madonna and Child
COD 10954
Antique Flemish panel from the first half of the 17th century. Oil painting depicting a splendid Madonna with child inside a niche surrounded by a garland of masterfully painted flowers and fruits. It has a symbol carved on the back of the panel referable to the Guild of Saint Luke (lacking authenticity), a guild of artists active in Antwerp during the Baroque period. The composition follows the style of Cornelis Schut (1597-1655), a pupil of Rubens, and both were members of the guild together with the greatest painters of the Golden Age of the Netherlands. 20th century frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, with some signs of aging (see photo). Painting that has undergone some small restoration touches, overall in excellent state of conservation. Sight size H 45 x W 59 cm.
