Description
Antoon Van Dyck school
The Crowning with Thorns
Oil on copper
cm 39.5x51.5
The painting is datable to the 17th century due to both the copper support and the pictorial matter. Certainly, the subject and style refer to the homonymous work by the painter Antoon Van Dyck. Flemish setting. The work in question is a 17th-century painting on copper with the subject taken from the "Crowning with Thorns" by the Flemish painter Antoon Van Dyck. The strong stylistic references and adherence to the theme logically suggest the production of a school created in a Flemish environment when Van Dyck was still active and operating. In particular, the chromatic range, the anatomical rendering of the subjects described, and the strong pathos released by the image of the Christ of the Passion.
