.. Brought back to a perfect condition of legibility by careful cleaning, this remarkable canvas for the room constitutes one of the most singular products recently emerged from the pictorial panorama of the third quarter of the 16th century.. we are faced with a sample of the season of Nordic painting in Italy at a date which, if we are not mistaken, should be placed in the 1570s; and rather sooner than later. Our canvas literally takes up, with some symptomatic variations, one of the masterpieces of Raffaello Sanzio's Roman following; as well as one of the highlights of the museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples.. if the hypothesis of a rather early chronology is valid, no less convincing seems to us the reference to a recognizable hand, not Italian if not by adoption: that Dirck Hendriksz Centen, originally from Amsterdam, who came to work in Italy at the end of the 16th century..
.. We are faced with an ancient replica, with perceptible variations, of one of the peaks of Giulio Pippi, known as Giulio Romano, and of the early 16th century: the Madonna della Gatta, preserved in the rooms on the first floor of the Capodimonte Museum..
.. for all intents and purposes, the new painting, which should not exceed the last twenty years of the 16th century, composes a critical essay, a lesson from painter to painter, on Giulio's Raphaelesque version but, be careful, completely reinventing it in a more softened and sentimental dimension..
.. the reference to Teodoro d'Errico, is easily earned on a stylistic basis and proceeds from a comparison with the master's works..
