Genoese school, late 17th, early 18th century. Oil painting on poplar panel. The painting is in good condition, accompanied by a beautiful antique gilded frame. A cleaning restoration would make it more legible and increase its commercial value. Panel measures cm h. 49x38, with frame cm 58x48. A devotional work depicting the Holy Family. The Virgin is portrayed in a serene attitude, tenderly holding the Child in her arms, and behind her, Saint Joseph lovingly observes the scene; the composition is an emblem of maternal love, rendered by the author with great poetry. After a careful stylistic analysis of the work, observing: the profile of the Madonna, the choice of brown and dark blue colors for the dress, the curly hair and red cheeks of the Child Jesus, the figure of St. Joseph in profile and in the dark brown color of the cloak. We can affirm that the pictorial execution is related to the hand of an artist follower of the Genoese school, active during the 17th century, and allows us to find connections with some paintings by Domenico Piola (Genoa, 1627-1703), protagonist of the Genoese Baroque culture.
